Timberline Place would like to introduce you to Gloria Thysell who made Timberline Place her new home in April.

Where are you from and what brought you to Flagstaff? I lived in southern California for 31 years before making the move to Flagstaff. Several things brought me here including the clean air, clear skies, less vehicular traffic, lower incidences of crime, friendly people, hometown/family spirit, abundant culture and the size of the community which is about 60,000.

What made you choose to purchase a home at Timberline Place? I chose Timberline Place because of the available single, first level condos, and because of the distance that it was from Northern Arizona University. I was also attracted to the amenities, especially the pool, hot tub, sauna and fitness center.

What do you do for a living? Currently, I am the sales administrator at a local hotel with prior employment as an internal auditor for a gaming commission, a construction loan officer for a bank, and a broker and owner of a loan brokerage firm.

What are some of your favorite things to do in Flagstaff? I enjoy hiking the many urban trails and those that intertwine the San Francisco Peaks and Mount Elden. I frequently participate in the interpretive hikes offered through the National Park Service and the Coconino National Forest Service. I also attend lectures at the Riordan Mansion that usually pertain to the history of Flagstaff and the surrounding area.

How do you like to spend your weekend? Are there any restaurants or sights you recommend? I spend most of my weekends hiking. A couple of years ago I hiked the South Rim Trail of the Grand Canyon with ten friends. Since it is only about 80 miles away, I’ve returned for several other hikes in the same area.

When I am not hiking, there is a vegan restaurant in Flagstaff that has the type of food I like. It is called Hip, and it is located on San Francisco Street.

What do you like most about living in Timberline Place? I’ve only owned my unit for three months, but I’ve already noticed the quietness of the complex and the friendliness of other owners.

CONDO, OR CON-DON'T?

The time has come for you to purchase a home, and the question is, “Do I want a house or a condominium?” While a house with a yard is often thought of as “The American Dream”, owning a condominium can truly be a dream and be more conducive to today’s busy lifestyle.

One major advantage to living in a condominium is convenience. Owning a condominium means less maintenance and landscaping, two things that can take up a lot of your precious time and money. The lock and leave lifestyle is also nice for those who enjoy traveling or have more than one home they split time in. Whether leaving for the weekend or for a few weeks or months, low maintenance living makes it easier to come and go.

Another plus is security. Condominiums like Timberline Place have neighbors living close by that can keep a keen eye on any irregular activity.

Not only do these benefits offer added value to condominium owners, they also offer a relaxing and more enjoyable lifestyle. Visit Timberline Place today to find what condominium ownership can offer you. The Timberline Place sales office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mediterranean Turkey Burgers

1 ½ pounds lean ground turkey
1 medium-size firm Bosc pear, peeled, cored and coarsely grated
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup panko (Japanese-style bread crumbs)
¼ cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
2 cloves garlic, very finely minced
1 ½ teaspoons fresh sage, finely chopped
1 ½ teaspoons rosemary leaves, finely chopped
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon coarse salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Mix together the turkey, pear, egg, panko, parsley, garlic, sage, rosemary, and allspice in a large bowl until well combined. Add the salt and pepper, or more to taste. (To test the flavor, cook a teaspoon or two of the mixture in the microwave or a small skillet.)

Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape them into patties, gently pressing the center of each to create a slight indentation. This will prevent the patty from bulging in the center, so that you end up with a flat, evenly cooked burger. Refrigerate the patties until the grill is ready.
